How to work with insurance companies

Insurance companies only pay for certain codes, or procedures. Because of the codes and our agreement with the insurance company, we only do level 1 to 2a/b for insurance work. Any care beyond that point that you desire can be paid for directly.

How insurance companies works with preferred providers. They are actually pretty easy to work with on the patient side. We will need you insurance information and can bill for you. Often there is a deductible, and copayments that you will need to make.

They will infrequently require reports every 30 days, or when requested.

Between the Lines

Personal injury:

If you have a personal injury claim I highly recommend working with an attorney. If you don’t have one we will be happy to refer you to a good one.

With personal injury cases, insurance companies can claim you don't need the care and cut off your benefits if you miss over a week of care, so don’t miss appointments. If you do get cut off, you can become liable for your bill.

With personal injury claims, the agreement is between the insurance company and me, the healthcare provider.  Because of this arangement, I must help you progress as quickly and effectively and affordably as possible.  Reports are often requested every other month or so.

Medicare:

With Medicare, you pay up front and the reimbursement checks  then come to you. People report good success with this system. One patient told us they will pay 80% of what is charged. Medicare will reimburse you. This can take up to 2 months. Medicare has a $124 deductible per year, and can cover up to  12 visits per year; however, there have been cases where they had paid for more than that allowed amount of visits.

Work comp

With this type of coverage, you need to be consisten about making nearly all of you visits- otherwise they can clam you don’t need the care. You need to contact employer to let them know you were injured on the job. (sometimes you have to go to an independent Dr. to confirm that you wern't negligent in the injury. Supposedly they may have you do a drug test, and ask other questions. Re-evaluations need to be done every 60- days. So we will be re-evaluating at that time. Claims can go around 6 to 7 months.

3rd Party Insurance:

This is when you are hit and someone else’s insurance is going to cover the bill. This is the most difficult way to work. I HIGHLY SUGGEST working with an attorney if care is expected to last over 2 months. We have seen the other insurance company claim nearly anything to not pay. Since the cost for care won’t affect the insured, they appear to have little interest in covering that bill. All the same rules apply as with any other personal injury case.
